"Welcome to Hyderabad! Did you know they're going to open a McDonalds here soon? Yeah, it's supposed to be located right by the airport!"

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT

July 2001:
"Hey we just heard they're going to open a McDonalds in town! It's going to be near to the train station!"

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT

November 2002:
"Guess what! Our friends just told us they're going to open a McDonalds in town really soon! It's probably going to be in the main shopping district."

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT

July 4, 2006:
CONFIRMATION! Four billboards in key areas of the city proudly (and officially!) announce: McDonalds is opening in Hyderabad at the Prasads Multiplex on July 7, 2006.

The WAIT is over. Fries, Milkshakes and the Maharaja Mac have hit the twin cities. And will be opening in the most crowded, most conjested, most popular entertainment spot in the area. Oh my... This will be interesting. (It's sure to be shambolic! tee hee... see previous posts!)

We're hoping to drive on over there to be present on opening day, just to see the chaos that is sure to ensue from the first (and likely most anticipated in all of India) McDonalds to open in our in our area. We've got Subway, KFC, Pizza Hut and Dominos, but the Golden Arches will finally grace our fair town.

Yes, that's right, I can finally use the word "town" or "city" to describe where we live... we have a stoplight and a McDonalds (along with 7 million people....)

Let the commercialization begin!

On Thanksgiving

I read an article this afternoon titled, “You have permission to not be thankful this Thanksgiving”.     The author’s point was that no one should have to force themselves to be grateful just because a date on the calendar prescribes that we should be thankful.     She even brought in to her argument the fact that “the original Thanksgiving” (think Pilgrims and Native Americans) was a horrible affair sans turkey or any feelings of thanks or of giving or of compassion and humanity.     True enough, I suppose. I would never argue that someone should be forced to be thankful.     I would never say that someone should be compelled to give thanks for things that they don’t have or for things which have been ripped from their grasp.     Forced joy is not joy.     I get that.   However, if I’m going to argue about anything, I would choose to argue passionately about one thing in this regard.  And here's the reason:   I ...

Thoughts on Election Day

                It’s election day here in America.     A day of red, white, and blue.     Many people have already cast their vote, but others are waiting in lines at polling places, eager to fulfill their civic duty.
