My brother blogged recently about the variety of non-essential things in his car that keep breaking.

I'm inspired.

Therefore, here is a little list of things in my house... non-essential? Some. Essential? Many... You can decide. All are presently still broken...

1. Bedroom air-conditioner
2. Chilled water dispenser knob
3. Power stabilizer to my computer equipment
4. Toilet flushing handle
5. Kitchen sink drainage system
6. VHS player
7. Bathroom sink
8. Phones
9. Bedroom light
10. One living room fan
11. Moulding around dining room ceiling fan
12. Several buttons on the TV remote
13. Nearly all our power strips

Wow... I guess it's time to call a handyman!

How was Clark's first day of first grade? How'd he do on the bus? These are the essential pieces of information inquiring minds want to know. (Not that I don't find your list of household items you are living without, because of their various stages of non-functioning, fascinating - since my husband is a handyman, my list would have to be all the things I'm currently living without because I can't find them in all the clutter of my house)

On Thanksgiving

I read an article this afternoon titled, “You have permission to not be thankful this Thanksgiving”.     The author’s point was that no one should have to force themselves to be grateful just because a date on the calendar prescribes that we should be thankful.     She even brought in to her argument the fact that “the original Thanksgiving” (think Pilgrims and Native Americans) was a horrible affair sans turkey or any feelings of thanks or of giving or of compassion and humanity.     True enough, I suppose. I would never argue that someone should be forced to be thankful.     I would never say that someone should be compelled to give thanks for things that they don’t have or for things which have been ripped from their grasp.     Forced joy is not joy.     I get that.   However, if I’m going to argue about anything, I would choose to argue passionately about one thing in this regard.  And here's the reason:   I ...

Thoughts on Election Day

                It’s election day here in America.     A day of red, white, and blue.     Many people have already cast their vote, but others are waiting in lines at polling places, eager to fulfill their civic duty.
