Funnies

Here are a few things I found amusing today:

1. One of Clark's classmate's parents said that they are thinking of moving back to Germany because it's *cheaper* than living here in South Asia. (Funny, but true!)

2. This same parent thinks that Kevin's name is 'Steve'... she called him that four times in my 45-minute conversation with her today... and I chose not to correct her.  hee hee

3. Every day there is something new for sale on the side of the road here... Today? Cell phone chargers for the car.

4. The previously unknown national rifle champion who has just won this country's first Olympic gold medal has become an instant hero and likely very wealthy from all the product endorsements he'll be signed to do.  The previous silver/bronze medal winner who failed to qualify for the finals of one of his events has been heralded as a failure and disgrace.  Fame is so fleeting!

5. I am enjoying 'watching' the Olympics... and when I say 'watching' I mean checking the updates on the internet seeing as our TV is going on its second month of malfunctioning.  Bummer!  My use of the English language for words like 'watching' has become extremely loose and free, with definitions changing daily from word to word.

6. For the last 2-3 weeks we've been enduring a severe electricity/power shortage due to heavy demand loads, lack of proper infrastructure to meet the needs, and a lack of rain which has dimmed hopes of sufficient hydro-electric power.  There was talk of building new nuclear power stations and that the electricity situation would only get worse and worse as the months and even years went on.  However (!), we had one extremely heavy rainfall last weekend and now it seems all the problems are fixed... Hmmm.... what was the true problem to being with?

Enjoying life.  Enjoying the adventure.  Laughing along the way.  Finding joy in the strangest of places.
