Thankful
We have just finished a fantastic Thanksgiving celebration in our family!
We began cooking yesterday with all the traditional Thanksgiving foods. The food is very important to me and so it gave me great joy to cook all the food. Mom was here again this year and so we enjoyed spending several hours together in the kitchen making all the preparations. We must've washed the dishes 20 times! I was amazed that every time I looked over at the sink it was packed again with vessels in need of scrubbing! We did the bread, the pumpkin pie, the stuffing, and prepped some vegetables.
We had a light dinner last night followed by a movie and popcorn/cookies. It was a fun family time together. We watched National Treasure. Love that movie!
This morning was relaxing as we lumbered out of bed, turned on the coffee pot and ate the delicious cinnamon raisin french toast casserole I had put in the oven at the crack of dawn. It was the perfect way to start the day. We lingered at the breakfast table over refilled cups of coffee... checking emails and issuing official statements on the attacks that happened in Mumbai while we were sleeping.
We continued cooking throughout the morning and finally began the initial 'snacking' at around 12.30 with sausage, cheese and crackers. We baked the sausages in honey and soy sauce and they made a perfect first course. We sat down to eat the 'real' meal around 2p and enjoyed every bite. We tried to eat slowly, savoring the new tastes we had created this year. We made all the traditional foods, but put a culinary twist on each item. Truly fabulous. I enjoyed it so very, very much.
We rested all afternoon while the kids played outside. Kevin washed all the dishes while we did the Thanksgiving puzzle. We broke out the desserts around 5.45p and enjoyed those, too. This year's 'new' dessert (in addition to the traditional pumpkin pie) was an apple-pear galette that turned out to be really, really tasty. We're thankful there are leftovers!
Now we sit in the quiet of Thanksgiving night, happy, full of food, and relaxed. Ready for tomorrow, some Christmas shopping and Christmas decorating. Can't wait.
I am thankful, thankful, thankful. For so many things. God is so good.
