Happy Birthday Kevin

We've just finished celebrating Kevin's birthday and our 12th wedding anniversary.  Yes, that's right, we were married on Kevin's birthday 12 years ago.  

This year's celebration was dedicated to celebrating Kevin's birthday, so the kids and I had planned a fun day just for him. 

The day started with a hot, delicious breakfast of blueberry pancakes and BACON.  What could be better than bacon?

We then rushed to clean up the house before it was time to provide a breakfast of tasty baked goods and coffee for our team during an early morning team meeting at our house.  We enjoyed 2 hours of conversation, sharing of emotions, and some good prayer. 

After the meeting, we rushed off to my gym and walked upstairs to the gym's day spa where we treated Kevin to a surprise massage.   The kids and I waited in the coffee shop and had a Diet Pepsi for the 90 minutes while Kevin was in the spa.  The ladies who run the front desk at the gym were so glad to see my kids... since they see me every day and love when they get the chance to get to know my family, too.

After the massage, we rushed over to get our 1.00p reservation for lunch where the restaurant manager had set a special table for us... brought us lots of special order items... charged us half price for our meal... and gave us a free butterscotch birthday cake for Kevin... which was presented by 2 chefs and 3 waiters who sang Happy Birthday to Kevin... a first for us in South Asia!

The kids were thrilled to give Kevin his cards and presents... Claire picked out a new wallet for him this year, while books rounded out the present haul... something to keep Kevin going during Christmas vacation time.

We love birthdays at this house!  We love cake... we love special breakfasts... we love presents!  And most of all at this time of year we love Kevin and are glad that he was born so he could be part of our lives.

On Thanksgiving

I read an article this afternoon titled, “You have permission to not be thankful this Thanksgiving”.     The author’s point was that no one should have to force themselves to be grateful just because a date on the calendar prescribes that we should be thankful.     She even brought in to her argument the fact that “the original Thanksgiving” (think Pilgrims and Native Americans) was a horrible affair sans turkey or any feelings of thanks or of giving or of compassion and humanity.     True enough, I suppose. Thoughts on Election Day

                It’s election day here in America.     A day of red, white, and blue.     Many people have already cast their vote, but others are waiting in lines at polling places, eager to fulfill their civic duty.
