Play Date
Claire had her first ever 'play date' today...
The pre-school/kindergarten that our kids attend is filled with children who have lived the first few years of their life in the US or UK. Coincidentally, their parents have become accustomed to the traditional activities of Western parents with toddlers or pre-schoolers. When they move back to India, however, they generally have to forsake these activities as the pressure for academic success is so great that most parents do extra homework with their children in the afternoons and evenings (yes, even three- and four-year-olds) and do not have time for collaborative play.
Apparently no one thinks we do this!
In the last three weeks, we have had a plethora (love using that word!) of invitations for our children to come over to people's homes to play. Claire was able to enjoy her first play date today with her friend, Saif, a three-year-old boy from her "Nursery" class at school. He is a quiet and polite boy... which makes me wonder why he likes my social, hyper and anything but quiet daughter! Opposites attract, I suppose.
Anyway, Claire had fun... and I got to take Clark for some special 'mommy-and-Clark' time at McDonald's. What memorable and loving times can be had with french fries and chocolate milkshakes!
Off to play!
