Addendum - Little Things

Going through my little green notebook again and found a couple extra thoughts on the topic of 'Being Faithful in the Little Things'...

I love this quote: 'Learn to fit in and work cheerfully in the inconspicuous' ~ Steve Brady

(That pretty much sums up my life! But I must learn to work more cheerfully...)

In Nehemiah 1:11b, we read a seemingly insignificant detail about Nehemiah: "... I was cupbearer to the king." In reading that passage, all of us must have skimmed quickly over that small phrase. But the implication of that small phrase is huge. In the world's eyes, this was a relatively small job. Cupbearer. However, the position and information and influence this gave to Nehemiah was absolutely key to his future success. He was faithful, obedient and full of integrity in this 'small' job... and therefore won the respect of the king for life.

Nehemiah took the old 'bloom where you are planted' cliche to the extreme. And so should we.

You see, no matter what your position in life, no matter how 'small' you view your world, it is absolutely true that we never know who we will influence. Nehemiah had full access to the king. He used that access to influence the king and to ensure the eventual betterment of the nation of Israel.
  • It is not about titles.
  • It is not about the number of people you supervise.
  • It is not about being on the main stage.
  • It is not about looking forward to the next big opportunity that will catapult you to greater position and greater success.
Our lives are not just about what we do, but how we do it... and for whom we do it.

Indeed! Be faithful in the little things. Serve cheerfully even in the seemingly insignificant. Bloom where you are planted.

God will take care of the rest.

Thanks for this! A message so important we need to hear it often.

Saw your hubby in the office today and I was wishing you were here with him! :( But I loved seeing the cute pics he brought of you and the kids with their cool bikes. Fun!
