Pamela

Pamela works for us doing most of our household work so that I can be involved in the 'other' work here. She's been with us full-time since before Clark was born... she is wonderful, wonderful... An Indian woman, about 40 years old, 2 grown children... a faithful believer...

For several months she has been suffering with severe abdominal pain which was soon discovered through ultrasound to be a cyst on her left ovary. The doctors tried to treat it with several courses of antibiotics (to buy some time while her daughter had her baby!) However, it continued to grow and was at the beginning of this week the size of a softball.

On Wednesday morning, the cyst burst. She of course did not know this, but did notice a dramatic increase in the pain. Finally today the pain was too great to bear and so she went to the hospital. They took her in for an emergency hysterectomy. They cleaned out the burst cyst and the affected ovary which was also somehow all twisted around. They were planning to remove the uterus and other ovary as well, but due to small, non-harmful attachments between the uterus and her bladder and other organs, they decided to leave the uterus and healthy ovary to avoid further complications.

I went to see her today a couple hours after the surgery. She looked and felt terrible, but we prayed for her and assured her that she would, indeed, be OK. She will be in the hospital for at least 5 days and probably on recovery for 1-2 months.

We're praying for her complete healing, emotional strength, and sense of peace amid the pain and confusion she's experiencing now. She's at the hospital right by our house so we can go check on her easily. Her daughter is taking care of her in the hospital... while her son takes care of her daughter's 5-week old baby...
