Nice
It is Saturday morning here.
We woke up at 8am (sleeping late, hooray!) after a night full of high fever for Claire... midnight medications, 3am drinks of water, 5 am little girl coming to mommy for comfort.
As we awoke on this first day of the weekend, rain was already falling heavily from the September monsoon sky. The thick, medium gray cloud cover created a comforting sort of dreary that made staying in bed sound oh-so-tempting... and yet the desire to see the rain and have a fun rainy-day at home with two excited children was the bigger draw.
Being the weekend (a non-school day), Clark and Claire were thrilled to indulge in a bowl of Choco's cereal - a special sugared cereal weekend treat from which they are forbidden to partake on school days for the sake of their own in-school concentration and general good health. They poured the tasty chocolate drops into their character bowls and ever-so-independently got the box of milk from the fridge and nearly overflowed their child-sized vessels with the white and creamy dairy goodness.
I got my blue-flowered coffee cup from the stainless steel rack on my kitchen counter and filled it full of hot coffee, took my homemade chocolate cherry hazelnut scone from the microwave (previously frozen from last week's baking escapades... now reheated), and sat down at the table to enjoy my Saturday morning breakfast treat -- the doughy sweetness of the scone mixed with the bitter blackness of the coffee filled my mouth and my heart with joy. One scone has about 250 calories. If I can manage to fill my hopefully-ever-shrinking-stomach with just one of these wonderful pastries, then I am still abiding by the prison of the hated food diary's demands. Today I am successful. Praise the Lord.
I opened the early-morning-delivered newspapers to casually skim through the morning's headlines, looking for news from the sports world, new sales at local stores, or new restaurants open for public consumption. Today there is not much of interest in the papers, but the leisurely stroll through its pages brings a sense of rest from yet another weary week. My ears are still filled with the sound of the continuing rain which is alternating between a drizzle and a downpour, its soothing rhythm making the morning a delight.
Ahhhh. Saturday morning with nothing to do but relax. How very, very nice.
